Just bought a nice Wby Mk V / Sauer and would appreciate recommendations on a scope for it.  I have several Conquest scopes and will probably go that way again, but recall seeing a post that they do not hold up well with hard recoil guns (which this gun is). I want a 3x9 or 3.5x10 scope that can be mounted on med height rings. Recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks

It seems everytime a Wby rifle is mentioned everyone goes numb.  I own several Wby rifles and believe they make the finest rifle on the planet regardles of whether it is production or custom, at least for hunting purposes.  I have a Bushnell Elite 4200 on my Wby 30-378 with a muzzle brake and handles the recoil without a problem.  I cannot recall what is on my 300 Wby, german made, but with a mark V action and it has held up well with the recoil without a muzzle brake.  I cannot comment on the Zeiss scopes with respect to how they handle recoil, but have not heard anything to say there should be a problem.  As others have read from my posting, I always prefer the Bushnell Elite 4200s and Sightron SIIs, both made in Japan by Light Optical Works, with excellent optics, rugged designs, easy eye positioning with good eye relief and good warrantees.  You can't go wrong and save money for ammuntion and other items.  By the way, excellent rifle.  Good hunting.

Hello Mokirk

I would go with a IOR 2.5-10x42 hunting scope, IOR offers a very nice scope for the money with

exellent optical and low light capabilities. To upgrade from there I would recommend the kahles

CL but depending on the model you will need MED to HIGH rings with the Kahles.

Your Conquest will hold up just fine.

I agree, if you have your heart set on a Zeiss, go with it.  As I have previously stated, they are extremely well built and I have never heard any problems with them handling recoil.  As for IOR.  I just cannot stomach purchasing a Romanian product at those prices, when I can get an Austrian product at a similar price.  I again still like the Bushnell Elite 4200s and Sightron SIIs, as alternatives.  Japanese made in the Light Optical Works plant.

I am not sure what your budget is MoKirk, but I have collected Weatherby rifles for quite a while and have a Swarovski on all but one of them.(20+ rifles)  This includes a Lazermark .300 and Fibermark .340.  In my opinion, there is not a better scope on the market.  I have a Zeiss on one of my .257's and it has held up very well also.  Just don't pinch pennies when it comes to the scope.

I was under the impression that Sightron had their own manufacturing plant. Being made by LOW would be a good thing though. I am not sure where the rumors started about Conquests being fragile, but I don't believe that the 300 Wby generates enough recoil for that to be a concern. Like Dolphin suggested, a 4200 Elite would be a great choice as well. I have a 4200 2.5-10x40 on a 300 Win. Mag and it has survived many airline trips and load development without a hiccup. They are well known for durability.

I went on the Light Optical Works website and while I cannot 100% verify they are the makers of Sightrons, Sightron is definately listed as a customer of LOW.  At their site, which is somewhat difficult to get to, you can find a list of all of the people they do buisness with and you would be suprised who that includes.  While some of the other scope manufactures are listed and obviously made here or in Germany, they must supply some glass or provide glass to other divisions of the German companiies.  However, I would find it highly unlikely that, they make the glass for Sightron and ship it to another Japanese manufacturer.

Dolphin, first my apologies for being flip with/towards you. We had a guy here not to long ago that came on rather strong and then became very obnoxious, which you are not. Anyway, could you provide a link to LOW? I got one from ranburr a while ago and did not see a list of customers. They had pictures of many B&L/Bushnell Elite products but that's about it. Anyway, welcome aboard.

Go to:

More Light Optical Works,Ltd, companies

It will have a general search for companies and those affiliated with LOW.  Oh, and do not click on the underlined link, it will take you nowhere.  Use that, at the site, by searching for Sightron.  I tried calling them earlier, but only got a recording, multiple times, so I sent them an email.  Will see.

Yep, I forgot that one. Please forgive me. I think he had the VX2's monted on his 500 Nitro lightweight rifles that he fired from the chin or was that one-handed, I forget.

Below is a link that I got from ranburr only showing some of Light Optical Works products. Looks like B&L stuff.

That website that I supplied, is actually a buisness search engine, but seems to supply connected companies, but now I am not really sure after looking through it awhile.  Anyway, I will try calling the company, they are literally about 45 minutes away from me.  Will see, as I said above.

I stand corrected.  I just received an e-mail from Sightron as shown below.  They have their own manufacturing plant in Japan.
We have our own manufacturing plant in Japan.

Can you tell me if your scopes are made at LOW or do you have your own manufacturing plant in Japan.  I checked the LOW website and I see you do buisness with them (? purchase glass), but a friend thought that you had your own manufacturing plant.  Regardless, love your scopes.  They stand with the best regardless of price.

That's what I thought.

I initially got interested in Sightron when there was a rumor that they were doing OEM work for Leupold.  not sure if that rumor is true, but I liked Sightron products and kept on using them.
