Hello everyone,
I have a winchester model 52B .22 with barrel mounted scope blocks. The original scope, a Lyman 438
field is so dark and cloudy it is impossible to use. I need a replacment but I don't want to drill and tap the
action. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Adam H.

How much eye relief will you need? Burris and Leupold would be your best bet for an intermediate eye relief scope.

I'm guessing that the scope will have to have 3-5 inches of eye relief. It also needs to have places to mount
rings at least 6 inches apart to fit the mounts on the barrel.

That Lyman 438...  is that the same as what they called their "Super Targetspot"?  I picked up a model 52 C the other day and it came with a boxed Targetspot in 12 power and original "international" iron sights.  Haven't had a chance to try the rifle out yet.  How does your 52 B shoot?

waltere, I am not sure if the scopes are the same, and yes, the rifle shoots very well. I am getting about.1-
.3 inch groups at 50 yards with the wally world el-cheapo ammo. My best yet was .08 inches center to
center. Thanks, gunman

Good deal.  I picked up a few boxes of Eley and will let you know how my 52 seems to shoot in a couple of weeks.

  Gunman,

My 2 cents says get the Unertl (first choice), or Lyman Super Target Spot.  These scopes were made for these rifles and you certainly will not be left wanting in the preformance department.  You have a top of the line rifle, it deserves the best optics.  It is hard to beat that package in preformance or eye appeal.

akshooting has it pegged!  Get a scope made for your rifle.  The two he mentioned are the best I know of for a Winchester 52 set up the way you describe.

On eBay, I see that those scopes seem to selling in the $500.00 range.  I was sort of lucky perhaps...  in as much as when I purchased my model 52, it came with a boxed Lyman Super Targetspot in 12 X along with a set of Redfield Olympic sights.
