Just picked up a gun that I have wanted since I was a kid. Now I need a scope. I have not been active on the forums for quite some time because quite frankly all the EXCELLENT advice I received in the past held true and I have been VERY happy with all optics I've purchased and been working on other projects.

Since I have been away all models and names of my go to scope have either changed or went away.

SO....here is what I want the gun for. I am going to use it for Blacktail deer and wild hogs. Where I hunt ranges from open canyons but a lot of rolling oaks.  Since I am an archer hunter as well, I prefer to actually make the stalk so shots are going to be 200yrds at most.

I have never had a scope with a bell smaller than 40...so I would like to try that, it would go with the look of the gun.  I can always go 3-9 or 3-10 but since I want the smaller bell the magnification range I am looking at is something like a 2x-7 (or around there).  Of course cost LOL  I want to keep it under $300

Several that have caught my eye are

Vortex Diamondback

Weaver Classic (which I LOVE the Grand Slam scope) just don't know about the Classic series

Nikon Prostaff

Lastly, if I do decide to go to a bigger bell I am also looking at the Minox

I've ruled out Leupold because I looked through a VX1 and wasn't impressed for the cost.

So please help an old forum guy out with any comments on the above stuff or any suggestions

Thanks again all for your help

Consider also a Leupold VX 2, a noticeable step up in optical quality from the Rifleman and VX 1 models.  It is still available in gloss to match your rifles bluing and has Leupold's latest phase matched coatings.  SWFA sells the gloss VX 2 in 3-9x 40mm for $299.  Not a lot of brands offer gloss finishes these days so if keeping a period look on your vintage rifle is a consideration I'd check out the VX 2.  Depending on how good your eyes are another advantage of this scope is it still has the old school focus mechanism on the eye piece which offers finer adjustments and a greater range of adjustment than some of the more modern fast focus adjustments on many of today's scopes.

Cheaptrick ...been quite awhile thanks for the warm welcome.

I picked up a Weaver Grand Slam 2-8x36 (new model) for under $200 :)  I wanted a smaller scope for that particular rifle.  I couldn't resist that deal.

I also ordered up a Minox ZV3 3-10x40 at the price I couldn't pass it up either. :)

Thanks all for help
