I was browsing around riflescopes.com looking at some choices for a scope to put on a Savage 10FP LE2B in .308 (the one with the McMillan Stock)

I came across this one and it had pretty much everything I was looking for (variable, high end around 14, side focus, target knobs, good glass)  One limitation is the 1" tube ... I think if I use a 20 MOA Base it will suit my needs ...

but I'm looking for input.  I have a 3-9 Conquest and think it's GREAT .... how's this one?  Anything else in the same price range (this is the TOP of where I'd like to go)

Use will be almost exclusively target ... most times at a 100 yard range playing with different hand loads ... but if I can find a place to shoot longer distances I'd love to

When going back to double check I find this .... 50MM instead of 44MM .... and $30.00 Less .... what did they cheapin?  A little bit less eye relief, but a little bit better exit pupil .....

These are nice scopes and I have some Mark 4 Leupolds that make the price look quite reasonable but if all you are doing is shooting paper at 100 yds with some posibility of shooting out farther I really think I would put a 10x42 M Super Sniper with side focus on it $399. That really is all the scope you need and quite adequate for that rifle. If you plan to use the rifle for hunting you may prefer the variable or a lower power like an IOR 6x42 fixed power. The rifle is a tactical rifle and these tactical scopes will take a lot of abuse. That is not suggesting that the Zeiss is a bad choice because it is a fine scope but if your budget is tight these are two fine alternatives.

How's it going Urimaginaryfrnd ..... funny you should mention it, my plan is to start with the SS10X42M that I have on my AR-15 now and see how I like it.  (I have another post asking about bases) I really like the SS, the only thing that I miss with it is the capability to crank up to a higher power to see a "hard to see" hole in the "black" ..... which is really not a problem, if I use targets with a single "red dot" bulls eye .... but I tend to always look around for my options ....

If you are sticking to the 1" glass and can afford the Zeiss Conquest with Side-focus then I think you've made a good decision.  On a side-note, I am interested to see how well the New Nikon Buckmaster side-focus perform.  I have a Nikon Omega and the clarity and light transmission are tremendous.  If the Buckmaster is aws good optically, for $300 I might choose it over the Zeiss for $750-ish!
