Hello Im new to the forum. I'm looking to buy a scope For my Savage 10FP .308  I will be using the gun for 100-200y target and possibly varmint hunting. I'm on what some people would consider a tight budget. 400$ is the upper end of what I would like to spend.  I have a few scopes in mind and would like your opinions please

1. Sightron SII 3-12x40
2. Nikon Monarch 3-12x42
3. Weaver Super Slam 2-10x42
4. Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14x 40

Thanks in advance

i would look in to a vortex viper 6x20x44 or the 6x20x 50.  have one mounted on my model 12 savage 308 and love it.  but have to upgrade to the ffp pst model due to a  new job at work(hopefully) .  but i think you will love it.  great scope.

DK, An excellent choice mught be the Nikon Buckmaster in 4.5-14x40SF. It'll give you plenty of magnification for punching holes in targets at 200 yards or Coyotes a longer distances. I would also suggest the BDC reticle which will allow you shoot with greater accuracy at longer distances using Nikon's BDC circles.
Of course going to Nikonhunting.com and clicking on the Spot On Logo will take you to a whole new world of shooting information using a Nikon scope. Yes I am a bit biased but only because I have used the product and know how well it works.
This Buckmaster gives you a lot of optic for a very resonable price.
Check it out and let me know what you think.

Don't forget Spot On site too, it's FREE to use.

At 100-200yds, you're not really stressing the optics curve too much, so you can get a nice, quality hunting type scope with great glass fairly easily for $400 or a bit less. At those ranges, a mildot tactical scope isn't really needed.

Check out the following hunting lines:
Burris Fullfield IIs (some great deals on these now)
Nikon's Buckmaster and the lower part of the Monarch lines are in your range (only Monarchs are fully multicoated, but both lines have excellent turrets and track very well). I have a Buckmaster 4.5-14x on my Rem SPS-Varmint,FWIW.
Vortex Viper (older models are still around, including the 3-9x, 4-12x and the 3.5-10x 50mm).
Weaver's Classic V16 and Grand Slams are all easily in your price range.

For the same budget, you can also afford a lower level tactical scope if you want. All of the Falcon Menace and WOTAC variables fall in your price range, as do the fixed power Super Snipers.

Sightron would be my choice.

I have two and they are superb.  They are very well assembled and are repeatable and the adjustments are correct.

Step up to the Sightron SII Big Sky and you won't regret it.  I have two of them and I think they're great.  I would search the internet for the best price on the SII Big Sky 3-12x42 and see if SWFA will price match it.
