I need some help.  I'm trying to pick out the "perfect" scope for my new rifle.  It's not truly an SASS.  It's actually a POF 7.62 semi auto with the 16 inch barrel.
I intend to put a can on it so I opted for the shorter barrel.
Scopes I've looked at and am impressed with:
ACOG 6x48 with the 7.62 BDC.
SB 3x12 PMII (civilian version of USMC's new Day Scope.
The actual USMC scope, military model.
Precision Reticle 3x15x50 with the 2nd gen XL
An odd duck but one I am extremely curious about is the Zeiss Laser Rangefinder Scope and the Elcan Digital Hunter.  I don't know how tought the Zeiss is but I sure like the laser rangefinder aspect of it.  Distance to target has always been a weak point with me and range finders are amazing.
Which brings up that new Zeiss range finder binoculars that gives you the holdover for your particular weapon.  Combined with one of the variable scopes from Precision Reticle it would seem that you would have everything covered.
What say you?

You a real Devil Dog or just like the symbol?

A 16-inch barrel will preclude much long-range, high-precision work.  My opinion is that a scope with 12+ max power is overkill.

What are you going to shoot?

I have a Springfield SOCOM that is my primary hog-hunting gun (nothing like 20 rounds of 175BTHP whoopass on tap when needed) and tend to stick with red dots or 1-4X scopes.

In certain circumstances a 3-12 might be a good option, it all depends on what you plan to shoot.

More info needed!
