Hello all, stumbled on this website while searching for info on different scopes... lots of good enlightening into! I need some advice. I FINALLY am a proud owner of a Sako TRG in the .338 lapua mag. I need some advice on what scope to put on it. I want to get the best bang for my buck, like everyone else... and definitely want to get the most out of the gun. I was looking at Night Force but they are quite pricey. Any suggestions anyone? or does anyone else have a TRG who can give me some advice?
Thanks for the help!

you need to set a price range, while many scopes would work, just a few can take advantage of the gun. If your looking at spending as much on the optics as the gun, then there are only a few. best bang for the buck doesn't apply to this last group as they are all of that-- but need to look at your specific needs.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to keep searching the net and doing my homework. Looks like I'm leaning toward Night Force at this point... but who knows. The US Optics are nice too, I've never had my hands on one but I've never heard anything negative.
Thanks again for the help, I'll keep you posted.
Happy shooting!

Nightforce makes a good scope, USO makes a great scope; let us know your price range and needs (and wants) and we can be more helpful.
That is a nice rifle, be sure you get something that can take recoil. |

I like the US Optics the best but some of the guys have been happy with the new Permier scopes. Nightforce is a good scope but I'm eithen not quite in that price range so Leu Mk4 or once I get there Im thinking just a little more and I could have a U.S. Optics.

.338 Lapua is a difficult round for the scope and the scopemounts, the vibrations in the gun can easaly kills a lot poorer scopes.
I think with a NXS 3,5-15 och 5,5-22 you will get the most bang for the buck.
They are now offering them with 0,1 milliradian clicks that makes life very much easyer when you have get used to it.
There is really no reason to have a milliradian reticle and a MOA adjustments, that is just folish.
My experience from USO is that its a pricy scope of low quality.
The only thing that I was impressed by was the high pricetag.
I am using a Zeiss/hensoldt 6-24x72 myself on my .338.
A poor thing with both the Hansoldt 6-24 and the NXS is the second focal plane reticles, something I maybe would consider if I bought a scope today.
The NXS in the military configuration is offered as a first plane scope in 3,5-15 and maybe it's possible to get hold of such a scope.
One thing that should be taken to consideration on a .338 is the extreme costs.
Factory ammo is very pricy, but also components for reloading is expensive.
So if you buy a low quality scope that breaks after 700 rounds, then everything you have learnt from those 700 rounds, and all droptables and verifications you have done is all lost.
That means on the cheap scope, the price for those 700 rounds should be added.......

Thanks for the input Technika,
Makes sense. I think I'm going to go with Leupold LR/T 8.5-25 with the TMR reticle. I recently got pretty intimate with a Night Force scope.. and to tell you the truth, I liked the Leupold better. I'm not sure if it's because I have so much experience with their tactical scopes, but I just think it was more 'user friendly'. Plus I think that TMR reticle is something I could get used to at those extended ranges. I figure I can't go wrong with a Leupold, they have seen much combat over the years.. are tried and true. As far as the recoil, I put a surefire muzzle break on it and that should help.
If you forsee any issues with that set up. PLEASE let me know!
Thanks again.. happy shooting.

Thanks Technika,
I think I'm going to end up with a Leupold LR/T 8.5-25 .. with TMR reticle. I went to a store and messed with a Night Force (which was mounted on a rifle) .. and spent some time with it. I think I like the Leupold better, seems more "user friendly". Maybe it's because I have about 10 years experience with it, but I know they work well. They have been combat tested and are tried and true. But you made excellent points... as far as recoil, I put a surefire muzzle break on the rifle. I hope to put the supressor on it some day too, which will definitely help with recoil. Thanks for your input, let me know if you see any problems with a Leupold Mark 4 on that gun... PLEASE.
Thanks, happy shooting!
