I would like advice on what scopes would be recommended to mount on these rifles on the scout rails.
Thanks

Welcome to Optics Talk.
In order for this illustrious forum to help you with your query, we will need more information. In no particular order, please consider the following. Maximum price willing to pay? What type of shooting scenario do you anticipate? Hunting, range use, self defense, etc? Lighting conditions anticipated? Terrain? |

Well, both rifles have 18" barrels, and I would be using them for range use/hunting primarily. As to price range, I am not on a budget but would like the biggest bang for the buck so to speak. Also, I am not dead set on a scout-type scope if a receiver-mounted scope would be better for getting the most out of the rifles' capabilities.
Thanks

This is just my opinion. But i dont see the point of putting a scout type scope on that rifle. The whole original point of a scout rifle was first to give easy access to the loading port because the original scout rifle concept you loaded through that action. The ruger scout has a detachable mag, so there is really no point for that. The second was so you could have a larger fov and be fast getting on target with the scope because you are using you eyes alot more to get you on target quick. But today we have variable scopes that have true 1x on the bottom end. So they are incredibly fast and have a huge FOV. Scout scopes once you start looking through they have terrible FOV.
When the Mr Cooper came up with the scout idea scopes with 1x were not available. It has just been in the last 4 to 5 years that technology has allowed scope builders to make scopes in true 1x. They have awesome 1-4x, 1-6x, and even 1-8x scopes available today that would work super well mounted right over the action that will offer you much more than a scout type mount Edited by supertool73 - July/21/2013 at 10:12 |
