    Posted: April/16/2012 at 15:10
Need some advice regarding scopes. I just purchased a Rock river Arms Predator HP 308. The rifle will be used primarily for deer hunting in Missouri and elk hunting in Colorado. Most of the deer I've taken in Missouri were under 200 yards. On the other hand I've taken a few elk out to 450 to 500 yards. What type of scope/scope setup would me best the these applications.
Additionally, like most folks my rifles will spend a lot of time on a rifle range.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.
Matt

Actually I wouldn't hunt out to 500 yards with a 308. So lets assume the max hunting range will be 400 yards and target shooting out to 500+ yards.

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-9x42-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P50716.aspx

This scope was MADE for an AR platform. The reticle may not be ideal for hunting, but I hunted last year in some thickets and the scope/reticle performed well.

I would also heartily recommend the outstanding SWFA Bobro mount to use with the SS.

Thanks for the suggestions.
A friend of mine has a Swarovski Habicht PVI-2 High Grid 3-12x50 scope he will sell me at a good price. Anyone have any experience with this scope? Would it be appropriate for my needs?
Thanks

My buddy just quoted me a price of $500.00 for the Swarovski. Should I jump on it or let it pass?

I second that. Worst case you turn around and sell it for the same price you paid or maybe more and buy another scope. But that sounds like a deal to me.Yippee

In general, Swaro scopes are exceptional.

If this is someone you know and trust, buy it immediately.

I believe that model Swaro was essentially a Pro Hunter with a 2nd focal- plane reticle (high [magnification] grid).
$500 would be a good price.

I know a guy that looks just like me that would give you $600 for it.

Bought the scope last night for $450.00 + a six pack of Guinness. Scope in in great shape. Thanks for all the advice. I plan on mounting the scope this weekend before heading to the range.
