I just bought a Remington R-15 in 223.  I'd like a versatile scope.  I know I won't get the best of all worlds trying to pick to scope to do it all, but need some advice.  I'd like one that could offer some varmint shooting if need be or close range shooting as well.

Any advice

What is your price range and primary usage?

I presume it already has a rail on it... if you look at the sample list, there are several Nikon Monarchs in 2.5-10 and 4-16 that should fit your needs.  You could also look at Swift Premier which is very good for the price.  I am not a great fan of the Bushnell 3200's, which are pretty good scopes, but have been overcome by better for the same or nearly same price, but on the sample list there is also a good option in that line.  If you could move up a bit in price, the Super Sniper 3-9x42 is an excellent choice for your rifle.

If you are not going under the 100yd mark I would say the SS in 10x40 fixed but if you are then I would say any Bushnell 3200 or Nikon Monarch. If you really want a scope that will do everything and some and will save you money a little longer KickBoxer told you the best advice on the 3x9 Super Sniper.
