I have a nice 10/22 I just finished building with a Bell and Carlson varmint/target stock, 18" Green Mountain fluted barrel and VQ fcg.  I want something of at least 18X.  I will be trying to make little tiny holes at up to 100 yards from the bench and also attend an appleseed event or two.  I'm not positive about what reticule I want.  I'm leaning towards the Mil Dot so I can practice ranging with some reduced targets.

I have narrowed my selection to either a Mueller or Vortex Crossfire scope.  I have a Vortex Viper 2-7 on my Beowulf and am very impressed with the optical clarity for the money.  How will the three scopes listed below compare to the viper in clarity?  Is one head and shoulders above the rest?  I am having trouble believing any of the scopes in this magnification range will have very good optic's at this price point.  What should I realisticly expect from these scopes?

Here is the Crossfire I am interested in:

Here are the Muellers:

Thanks!

The crossfire will look like crap compared to your Viper.  Especially since you are going up in magnification.

I would look at the 6.5-20x Viper in mildot if it were me.  The glass is pretty good and the adjustments are nice.

I considered that Viper.  It is a little out of my price range.  The deal killer for me is the focus range starting at 50 yards.  I will need to focus as close at 25 yards.

I am able to see my 22 hits with my Leupold VXII 3-9 EFR. But I use a target that changes color when hit.

Is this a target gun only? If so you might consider a SS 10x or 16x. Both focus down to 10m. But they are $300.

This one is in your price ball park, and is a lot better scope than the crossfire line. "their other scopes are good, the crossfire is not"

how would a minimum of 8x help any more than the 6.5x.  and by the way did they finally sell out of the 6.5-20 viper target dots for $250?

you're asking alot for a cheap magnification range good at both 25 yards AND with specs out to 18x on the high end.  i'm guessing that would be something like a 3-18x.  most quality scopes with this kind of versatility will run at least $500+.  The viper still looks like a good buy to me at this price point.
