As you can see from my title, I am a "grasshopper". With that being said, I'm looking for a low-end scope that will handle the recoil of the NEF 10ga. This set-up will be used at night for predators along with a laser. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Why not a red dot?

I have a light/lazer combo to mount on a 1" tube. I'am looking for the cheapest long eye relief, low power scope that'll handle the 10ga. recoil. I will be using shot at night.
Would I be better off with a red dot? If so, what brand can stand up to that kind of abuse? Thanks. |

A dot would be nice for that type of hunting. My best experience has been with Aimpoint. There are some on the http://www.samplelist.com/default.aspx?display_num=10&mfg_selection=19&prod_type=-1&hide_sold=false for under $300.
I believe they are the top pick in a electronic dot sight for any purpose. http://www.swfa.com/c-843-aimpoint-9000l-red-dot-sights.aspx There are other cheaper alternatives I don't have experience with. Hopefully some other members here will chime in. I would be careful with some of these on a 10 ga., though. |

I have a 10 ga barrel for my H & R Ultra slug gun, in which I shoot buckshot. It had holes for a scout type mount, so I tried a red dot on it. I picked up a PDP-2 made by TASCO a few years ago and it has held up to the testing I have done with various buckshot loads and chokes. While an inexpensive product, I had heard from people I trusted that it would take recoil. Thus far, it has. In fact, I liked it so much that I picked up a couple more for use on handguns, up thru 44 mag.

I have an Ultradot on my New England 10 ga that I use for turkey hunting. It was about $180 but the cost was defrayed due to winning a $200 gift certificate at the gun store. They recommended the Ultradot due to it being a "magnum proof" scope. I'm not sure how well a $30 Ebay red dot will hold up to a 10 ga pounding.
