I have rencently inherited my grandads old remington 700 .222. Its a awesome gun in great condition. He has an old 4X fixed power tasco on it and i am wanting to turn this gun into my varmit gun and to do this i got to have a better scope.  I want scope that has some kind of like ballistic lines like the burris scopes have or like a tactical scope but i don't know much about them.  The problem is i just spent around $1000 on a new scope for my 30/06 and don't want to spend over $150 on a scope for this gun.  I was hoping you all could help me pick a good high powered scope that will work for shooting stuff as small as praire dogs up to maybe 500 yards.  If anyone also has any info on how those tactical scopes ajust for distance and if it would work with this gun please let me know.

I understand the budget part here, I would save just a little longer and at a minimum get something like this. It's a Mil-Dot scope and they are nice for the money from what folks that have them are saying. You can get the ballistics and figure the holdovers by doing a search on the internet for your calibre, and you can order a mil-dot master here from SWFA.
Best of luck to you sir.

Don't have that scope, but I've also heard good things about Swifts.
I doubt you'll get better advice than ol' Cyborg just gave you...You'll like the magnification range for what you're putting it on, even if you may be a wee bit optimistic about hitting too many prairie dogs at 500 yards with a .222.
You'll hit a few of them, though!
