I've been looking for a scope for my 300 Whisper for a while. This caliber is fairly demanding on a scope as it has a LOT of bullet drop "Around 97" at 300 yards" and being off a little at any distance is a miss with it. It seems it would be a lot faster to hold over using mil dots for different distances, than the amount of dialing that would be required to change just 100 yards distance.
With that in mind I was looking at the following 2 scopes: I realize the power is more than I need for mostly under 300 yard shooting, but since I will be using the dots for aiming, I think I would like to be a little more zoomed in. Both the scopes I mentioned above seem to have enough mil-dot marks for hold over up to about 300 yards for this round. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts between these 2 scopes and any other scope I may have missed and should consider. Thanks!!!

Mil dots would be faster, but they dont address the precision necessary, as you stated "being off a little at any distance is a miss with it."
Measure the distance, estimate the winds, and turn the knobs.
Both scope would work just fine.

Very true about distance between mildots being too much to use it for hold over, BUT one of the draws to both of these scopes is they both have half mil marks. Using both the mils and half mil marks I should be able to stay within 2.5" of zeroed all the way out to 300 yards with this round, mathematically anyway.
I don't mind dialing it, it's just a LOT of dialing even for 100 yard distance changes. I doubt I use this gun for hunting much, but if I did, using the mils for hold over would be a lot faster. If I get it shooting reliable out to 300 yards, I may go hog hunting with it. |

Since you mention the Vortex PST I thought I would mention I recently handled a PST FFP with the moa reticle and think it has a lot vertical reference and could be useful for this ap. I just built a blackout (same thing) in a bolt gun and have similar needs. Dialing will be the way to go but a reticle with so much drop reference could come in handy for lobbing these little rounds. Good luck.
