I've recently purchased my first rimfire, that being a Marlin Model 60.
I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet and would like to see how it does initially with the iron sights.
I forsee the gun being used now for some casual fun plinking and to a lesser extent small game hunting.
I also forsee in a couple years that this will probably reverse itself with it being used more for small game and less for plinking.
I anticipate any small game or plinking will be within a 25 yd to 75 yd range.

If I scope it, I'm considering either the
Weaver Rimfire Classic  2x7x28 for around $130, or the
Simmons 22mag  3x9x33 for around $40.

I'd appreciate hearing the pros and cons of each.
There's a considerable difference in price between the two and
I'm not adverse to spending the extra money on the Weaver if it warrants it.

I am also open to any other suggestions that anyone may have.

I see that Simmons also has a 22mag 3x9x33 AO for around $60.
I am not all that familiar with AO in general and understand that it may be more of a hindrance than help in close range hunting situations.  Is there any reason to consider the AO again for my situation as described?

Thanks

i own the 22 mag scope 4x32 model - it's very good for the money, but the weaver would be all around better in glass/construction/etc.

i put the 22 mag on an old beater gun - glenfield model 10 bolt action - it's very clear and repeatable. i can basically shoot through a dime all day from 25 yards w/ it.

if you are gonna have this gun for a long time and enlist it's services for years, i would buy the weaver.

but if you want a good scope for cheap, get the 22 mag. i am pleased w/ mine.

i hope this helps. WELCOME TO THE OT.

let us know what you decide.

J

as for the AO, the parallax should be set for 50yrds.

it may come in handy for parallax issues at higher magnifications and distances, but it's probably not a necessity.

a good fixed power should do the trick nicely.
