Any suggestions for a scope for my new FNAR? I was entertaining the idea of putting my 4200 2.5x10x50 from my Rem 700 7mm on it.

Willing to spend $500-$800. Will be used for some tactical applications. But, I see myself setting it up in my blind at some point too.

I am having the exact same dilemna... FN AR and already tried one 50mm scope and you will need really tall mounts. I returned it due to it just being a cheapo scope, I decided to do something nice for a nice rifle. I am looking at the 4200 or 6500 or possibly a laser ranging scope of some sort. I have looked at the Burris Diamonds, Nikon Monarch's and the Bushnell. I defintely want a scope with a Mildot and side adjustment.

I have a 4200 2.5x10x50 on my 7mm mag. I was thinking about putting it on the FNAR, but decided I wanted a smaller, lower power scope. A co-worker friend of mine recommended a Nightforce like he has. I just can't part with another $1200-1300.

Ahh... I have been straining my brain over this for days now. I don't see myself ever hunting with the FN as don't you have to have less than so many rounds capable weapon to hunt elk? If not I would definitely take it on a hunt when I finally get my Elk tags. I live in Illinois and we can't hunt anything with a rifle except coyotes. I also have a bolt 30-06 that I thought would be my hunting rifle (also needs a scope). Here is my lowdown for scope needs.

FN AR (.308) set up for long range but shorter capabilities, possibly a laser on it for that.
4200 or Monarch possibly in the 4-16 magnification for top end

Howa 30-06 bolt for hunting up to possibly 500yrd or so
6500 2.5-16x42 mildot ??? is this overkill? I would like to keep the cost down if possible but I want a mildot or BDC type reticle.

DPMS AR .223 with flip up sights, I want to use them at times and would like something for longer ranges that I can get out of the way if I want to use them. I am thinking an Eotech??? But that isn't really very accurate at any kind of distance if I were to use it for coyote hunting. We have nothing but flat 1/4-1/2 mile plowed fields here to shoot over for coyotes.

I notice most of these are not variable power scopes. Is this preferable for long range shooting due to having more adjustment capabilities? I never really looked at this option before. It makes sense to me for a scope for my AR as I could just take it off with some quick releases if I wanted to use my iron sights.
For my 30-06 I was thinking about the 6500 in a mil dot as it's bright and has a decent variable range and side parallax. I like the trijicon accupoint but they are a bit too steep for my wallet since I need multiple scopes for three different rifles.
