After 4 months waiting, I finally got my CZ 527 Prestige.  This has a slightly shorter barrel than the 527 varminter.  I'll use it for prairie dog hunting in SD (200-500 yards) and target shooting at the range. I'm looking at a Leupold 6.5-20 x 40 AO with a varmint hunters reticule.  I've looked at Leupolds interactive web site and think I'd really like this reticule.  I don't like the extremely tall target knobs on the 50 mm version, so I discounted that model. The slight loss of light in a 40mm vs 50mm does'nt bother me.

I'm also thinking of a Zeiss 6.5-20 x 50 AO with a fine crosshair reticule.  I like this one due to the target knobs but am not thrilled with the reticule (quite narrow for my eyes and the Z-plex covers up half the dog.

Some people tell me to forget about making any adjustments with knobs once out in the field and just compensate by different aim after the first shot, as prairie dogs are too stupid to run and hide after a bullet misses them by 3".

I'd appreciate any imput from any one who has used the varminters reticule.

Also, you are talking to an extreme novice.  Up to now I've only shot a Winchester 30-30 sans scope and a Ruger 10/22 with scope at 100 yards.
