Hello folks, Well I sent the 7x64 off to get a rail put on top of it and
very pleased with how it has turned out: I currently have a 6-24x56 Meopta sat on top of the rifle
which is great for targets and dialling but not the greatest for hunting,
mainly due to relatively high bottom mag and not fastest reticle with the
hollow mill-dots. The scope is in QR mounts and does a good enough job of returning
to Zero (At least for work not worrying about getting sighters back on for a
days plinking). It is not so light these days so tends to be used from the high
seat as a “beanfield” rifle when hunting and target rifle on the range. I’d like to go for a high-end scope that will do 2 things: 1) 1) Be good to use the rifle out to range a. I’m
thinking with an ASV turret b. Zeiss/
S&B / Swarovski do this but are pricey c. Been
impressed with the Meopta glass. Anyone had any experience with the R1
(3-12x56) or R2 (2.5-15x56) with the Ballistic Hunting Turret 2) 2) Have good glass and good light gathering so could
be used for waiting for a boar under the moon 3)
Would like a number 4 / duplex type reticle
with a single central illuminated dot So folks, let me know your thoughts and suggestions! Scrummy |

The Premier is a great scope, I took one to Africa a few years ago, loved it. Be aware Premier is defunct, but the company that sprang from them says they will repair the Premier scopes - or they said that once. Before dropping the money on that scope, I would verify with Tangent Theta that they can/will service that optic.
If they will, buy quick, I might buy it! I seem to recall it was a little light on total internal elevation, but I don't hunt at 1100 yards. |

Well, if you want the scope to do double duty as a hunting and a target scope, you are looking at something in the 3-15x50 or 3-15x56 range, with good glass and parallax correction. Also, you need a high quality turret for dialing your shots when target shooting (or a CHristmas tree style reticle).
While the two Meopts you have mentioned earlier are excellent designs, neither offeres parallax adjustment. They will do really well as hunting scopes, but if you want to extend the range for target shooting, parallax correction and image focus are pretty important. Premier or Tangent Theta 3-15x50 is a good recommendation. I just finished testing the Tangent Theta and it is even better than Premier was. Another good options is Kahles K312i 3-12x50. It performed very well in low light and proved to be a very good target scope in my tests. I am not sure how much it costs in UK, though. One scope that does not get a whole lot of coverage, but might work very well for you is Minox ZEi 3-15x56. Unlike the Meopta, it has side focus. The turret is not of the exposed variety, but it tracks well. Or you can use the BDC reticle. It is also available with the #4. ILya |
