Hey folks,

I have an old clunker of a scope mounted on my M1 Carbine that I would like to upgrade.

I am thinking of something in the 3 x 9 x 50 size.

Since it is a gas opperated action . . . should I be looking at a shotgun or airgun scope?  The recoil isn't much but I thought I would pose the question to you folks.

I was looking at the Bushnell Legend as the replacement.

Any thoughts?

Thanks folks!

A scope of that size is going to be bigger than the rifle!  I would put something along the lines of a 1-4x24 on it.  The .30 carbine round is very anemic and not something that you really need to be using on anything that is outtside of 50 yards.  Thus you don't need a high magnification scope.

Ranburr certainly hit the ballistics. However on the fun factor they rate pretty high. You might consider a good dot, such as the Bushnell Trophy it is 1" and will still fit in your mount. Any good 22LR scope would work.

Hey guys,

I understand the Carbine isn't a hunting round and the rifle isn't very accurate.  It was never designed to be so.

It is however: A hoot to shoot!

My eyes are not as good as they used to be  . . . I need glass.

It has a 3x9 on it now . . . for power it works just fine.  The optics are junk . . . I will have to look at whom made it . . . I think it is a 25-30 year old, bottom end Simmons.

I tend towards 50MM objective lenses for light gathering as a general rule.

I will not be hunting with this rifle . . . ehhhhhhh perhaps call a 'Yote or two with it . . . though I use my .223 for that.  It is mostly used for punching paper at the range and pinging cans after we have finished hunting for the day when we hunt Nevada for 'Yotes.

I Red Dot might work . . . I perfer optics (per se).

It is good to know I don't need a slug gun or air gun scope and can simply use a rifle scope.

Thanks guys!
