I have a DSA SA58 Congo California Model.  I'm thinking about getting the Picatinny scope mount with the stripper clip access.  The mount only goes as far as the edge of the ejecting port and not all the way to the forend like the regular scope mounts.  I was wondering if its possible to put on a full size scope for longer ranges.  Any thoughts and recommendations?  Thanks in advance.

CA model = fixed mag, and stripper clip loading only, correct?  if so, then a full size scope will block the port.

I think you may be limited to whatever fits within the railed section, such as a 1x T-1 red dot.

Considering the FN/FAL is better known as a battle rifle, and not a "tack driver" the 1x optic may be more appropriate anyhow.

You may be able to fit a flip to the side 3x magnifier on there, but you'd have to measure

One would think that rifle might be a good cantidate for a scout style scope if there was a way to mount it.

most well made fn-fal and their nockoffs will easily ring 8x10 steel at 500 yds all day long with a 4x scope-- with military surplus. however the stock is the problem , it has a deep relief cut into it for use with iron sites. Get a magpul replacement,  or use a check riser. It helps to add a spacer or recoil pad to your eye back. Here is an IOR fixed 4 which is a very long scope to give you some ideas. The fns also like the scope eye piece as far forward as possible, so this restricts your choice to the lower end variables, which will allow more eye relief. something like a leo 1x4 should work or burris tactical.

I don't have a FAL.  Why don't I have a FAL?

Do I need a FAL?  Do I "need" a FAL?

It's a .308, right?

don't know if you need one, but they are a lot of fun, most are 308 but you could get one made in its variants--243 ect. --- if you can stand the wait list.

You might consider a DSA rail mount - especially one that takes stripper clips. Here is the DSA page: http://www.dsarms.com/Stripper-Clip-SA58-Extreme-Duty-Scope-Mount---620ASCM/productinfo/620ASCM/

Midway has it in stock and on sale for ~$113 now (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=846619)
