Just recently purchased a Savage chambered in 270 WSM.  I'm consiodering the Bushnell Elite 3200 for this gun but I'm a little concerned with the eye relief on the Bushnell.  This gun seems rather light and does seem to have a pretty good punch to it.  Any help will be appreciated.

You could get some Leupold extension rings. They will give you a little more eye relief.

If you position the scope properly and hold the rifle right, you shouldn't get a scope cut from a 270WSM, even in a very light rifle (I've shot 270WSM in a Kimber Montana, 7.5 lbs with scope, with no problem).  Scope was a Leupold VXIII 3-9X40.  However, if eye relief is a problem for you the 3200 is a bit short at 3.3".  You'll get at least a half inch more from a Leupold or Zeiss, and that's plenty to make the difference in getting whacked.  The only time I ever got hit was from a .375H&H, and it felt like I got kicked in the head by a mule.

Extension rings will let you move the scope farther from your eye, but do not affect eye relief, which is constant.  It doesn't do much good to move the scope farther away if you can't see through it

Yeah you wont get anymore eye relief out of it. I guess I worded it incorrectly. It does allow you to mount the scope in a different position atop the rifle. This way you could get yourself in a better "I think I'm gunna get creamed by the scope" position.

I needed the extension rings on my savage to get the scope close enough to my eye.  Thats with a scope that has I believe 3.5" of eye relief.

COnsider Sightron S2 3-9x42 scope.  It is a much better glass than Elite 3200 and at has a fair bit of non-critical eye relief (3.6"-4.2") I think.  Other good option in that price range that has slightly more eye relief than the 3200 is Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40.

You should have plenty of eye relief.  I can't see your gun kicking that hard; especially when your shooting it at a critter!  Try changing recoil pads too; maybe a Sims vibration pad if you're worried about excessive recoil!
