Hello Hillstomper

Tasco and Leapers 5th gen are not good scopes, they are made in China with

very poor quality control and cheap materials, they are both a waste of money.

There are much better scopes, Koshkin will give you exellent advise on a scope

for your money.

I would probably put a ($299)Super Sniper 10x on it but what you put on it depends on how much you want to spend and what you plan to do with it.    .204 is not a real long distance cartridge due more to it's lack of energy at distance. Nice flat shooting bullet for varmits but I dont think that I would need a  higher power say 16x + scope due to the lack of energy at distance. I would say a 6x Weaver would be a good choice if price is a huge factor ($130.)

Sightron SII might be worth a look. I finally got a good look at them and the SII is a definate improvement over the S1 ant the SII is one of K's favorites. Here is another scope worth a look:

I'm not really getting anywhere with this scope search maybe if i tell you what I will be doing with this 204 it would be more helpful.I will be mainly yote hunting at night and my shots would be anywhere from 100yds to probably the longest would be 400yds.My ruger is the target version bull barrel.I want to be able to see what i'm shooting at under poor lighting conditions.

Check out Nikon Buckmasters, Bushnell 4200, Burris Fullfield II in the higher magnifications.  The Bushnell has the firefly reticle that may be of use in low light conditions.

There are a few European manufacturers that design scopes for just your usage (lots more night hunting over there).  I have no clue what you're looking to spend but a fixed 6x, 8x, 10x Kahles/Zeiss/Schmidt & Bender/IOR/Swarovski would do a fantastic job for your intended applications.

Hillstomper... the latest update is helpful but you still need to give a price range.  The good guys on this forum submit a lot of posts and without a price range their fingers would bleed from all the unnecessary suggestions.  Give them as much info as you can and these folks will come thru for ya!
