Looking for a low power variable, have seen a few older threads on this one, but wanted to see if any updates out there....Use will be close to med range (0 to 300ish), looking for crystal clear, and what will hold up long term.  Intent for large game, some might be ill tempered.

Top 2 so far are the Leupold VX3 1.5-5 with the #4 reticle, and a Monarch 3 1-4x20 with same reticle.

I want to stay with a 1" tube as rings included with it, and I dont think 30mm gains me that much in this situation.

thoughts?  Would like to be under 500.

I have lots of bullets and brass I will sell you cheap 285gr SP with Prvi or Graf brass...

I suggest something lower power 1- or 1.5 - nothing higher on the lower end.

I've got a 2-7x32 Viper (C3 reticle) on my 9.3 M98 right now. I keep it set at 3X. Before that I had a 2.5x20 M8 Leupold (hvy plex reticle).  At least so far out to 275yds or so I've not wanted for anymore magnification.  300 is definitely doable. Maybe consider one of these.  Possibly the toughest scope out there right now.

Earl that was a super cool scope when we had them. Kicking my self, for not getting one for the .22 mag I have.

  Yes it was!  THANKS AGAIN,Pyro.

GLAD I picked up a second one.  Although used it was like new in the box.   They're not perfect but then what scope is.  My SIL was using one last season (C3 reticle) and said he had a bit of a problem at very last light.  I still feel they were at the time the best all around big game scope being offered.  May they RIP.

I've got one of those. It's pretty nice. I originally had it on a Ruger 1 S in .300 H&H mag. It did the trick!

I bet that is a nice scope.  If only I didn't have the M8 2.5 and steel K2.5.....................
Anyway,I figured that I show that the Leupold 2.5 Compact will fit on a std length action.
Even w/o the cursed extention bases or rings.

At this point leaning toward the Minox for 5x erector. 1.5 to 8 with good glass seems pretty versatile and could cover a lot of options.

Here's a thread about that Minox.  Definitely the one I'd be considering.

Don't need any components, just ordered some Lapua brass. If you have reload data using R15, I'd sure take it.

Thanx

I've tried three scopes on my Mauser '98 9.3x62

Leupold Custom Shop 1-4x20 VXII No.4 reticle
Reticle was too thick. Had good success in Africa with this though. The current 'Hog' scope looks identical.

Leupold 2.5x20 FCH
Just enough eye relief but balances the rifle perfectly. Haven't killed anything with this combo yet.

Zeiss 6x42 #4
Better #4 reticle that the Leupold but too much magnification and I always lost the sight picture after recoil.

Put a 1.5-6 on my 9.3x62.  If you can get a Minox 1.5-8, and there are demos out there on the Sample List, you'll like it.  I'd get the #4 reticle.

I just went ahead and ordered the Minox.  I figure if I dont like it on that rifle it should fit plenty of applications with its range.  Found a lot of favorable information on it in other professional reviews.

I grabbed a SS fixed 6 MRAD while at it for a 308 thats been sitting there lonely, so wife gonna be grumpy.

Well customer service was great, they sent me a Minox sample list scope at a great price reduction, looks great mounted on the CZ and I like the scope so far, but just daylight.

Only knit pick on the minox is that the 1.5 actually seems like reverse magnification.....Does that happen?  Im looking outside the window at a car, and its closer to the naked eye than looking through the scope on 1.5?

Also grabbed a SS fixed....I have read the good reviews, wasnt sure to believe or not, finally took a chance and ordered one...very pleasantly surprised I must say.....
