I have been trying to do my homework on what scope to put on this rifle, but have yet to make a decision.  The factors that I have been looking for are:

1.  American made

2.  High quality

3.  Variable power with a maximum of 10x to 14x

4.  Mil-Dot reticle

5.  As reasonably priced as possible (I fully expect to pay as much for the scope as I did for the rifle)

I have always been told that Leupold is the top fo the line, but a colleague said that Burris is also top quality.  I have only managed to find a Leupold Mark 4 in a local shop = very nice.

I have had the rifle for almost a year without firing a single round, needless to say I am anxious to put some rounds down range.

Based on the above criteria what fills the bill?

Do you want high quality or American made or reasonably priced? You can have two out of three.

Hint: Leupold is not top of the line. It's in the middle and you pay a lot extra for thier marketing efforts.  It's kinda like the tools you bought from Sear thrity years ago and the ones you find now.  They look a lot alike, but you can tell from the feel that something is differant. Then you handle Matco or Snappy... Leupold's quality has improved over the years, but has not kept up with the pack.

USO is top of the line and American made, but the phrase "reasonably priced" gets very subjective.  You are also in line with a bunch of large contracts.

You are not that differant than a lot of people who come here.  Marketing has conditioned people with expectations that do not get met in the "real world."

Yes I would agree that leupold isn't the snap-on of the scope market, but then, will that craftsman socket get the job done? yes, yes it will (in most cases anyway)

Look at IOR scopes they are pretty good for the cost, I think I saw a 4-14x50mm for about 850, maybe out of your price range. In which case I think the best step down would be a zeiss conquest in 4-14x44mm for about 700.
