I though i would post here because my needs for a scope are probably similar. I'm trying to pick out a scope in the 1 to 2 power range variable up to 5 to 7 range for my 45-70 1895XLR. I like the look of the 24 or 30 mm objective, small kinda of fits the purpose of the gun.... Hunting in thick bush that may some times lead to an open field.... I know price range is the biggest factor when on this subject.... I'm not cheep when It come to scopes but for this one I really wanna keep it under 4 to 500... Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

I have a Leupold VX3 1.5-5x on mine XLR and like it a lot.  I went with the German #4 reticle.  Great for low light and heavy brush.

I'd suggest a fixed power 3 or 4 X.
