I had a Weaver K 2.5 on my 45/70 until I sold the gun. Held up JUST fine.  I have also found the Weaver V3 to be a good scope. Or how about a Leupold 1-4x or a straight Leupold  4x. I would get something with ample eye relief, and all the above should suffice.

Good Luck.

I've got a Burris Signature Safari 1.75-5 on my Marlin 1895.  I shoot heavy handloads, 405gr bullet at 1900fps and the scope is perfect.  Safari is made for recoil.

I would lean towards the new Safari too.  Lots of eye relief and built for recoil as mwyates mentioned.

RR,

I use a Nikon Gold 1.5x6 on my 45/70, and like mwyates shoot fairly heavy handloads as well (350@~2250). So far so good, long 4" eye relief.

I've also heard that Burris builds a tough scope.

Good luck and have fun.
