Just got a new 375 H& H and now need to put a scope on it.  What should I consider and/or avoid in terms of the scope and mounting system being able to handle the 375 recoil?

Assuming you are hunting large potentially dangerous game.  I would recommend the following based on eye relief, field of view, easy of use, ability to mount on long action and reticle designed for quick shooting on a moving target or a close range target in brush.

Burris Signature Safari 1.75-5x32 with the LRS illuminated Fast Plex......$419.95

Leupold 1.5-5x20 VX-III 30mm w/ Illuminated circle dot.....$574.99

Swarovski 1.25-4x24 Professional Hunter w/ #24 Battue Illuminated reticle......$1298.99

Kahles 1.1-4x24 HELIA CSX with Illuminated C-Dot.......$Not Available Yet

Print and read up on this innovative new product that will set the standard in dangerous game scopes

As far as mounting systems, Standard Leupold or Leupold Dual Dovetail will work fine if properly installed.

Chris, thanks for the reply!   I got the rifle to hunt in Alaska (brown bears), and African (Cape Buffalo.)   While these are the primary hunting uses I expect for it, I also might use it for elk (although I already have a 300 win mag for that.)   I also plan to handload it down to lighter loads for white tails.

What are your thoughts about the Zeiss 3-9X40 Conquest when compared with your earlier recommendations?  The constant 4" eye relief combined with a reasonable price and an excellent reputation for quality is appealing.  Am I giving up too much FOV @ 3X for dangerous game?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I think it is an excellent scope for the money and the constant eye relief would be perfect for that caliber.  Great for elk and deer but not my first choice for dangerous game.  I think you should consider buying a true dangerous game scope then possibly selling it after your hunt and put the Zeiss on for deer and elk.
