I am looking for a new scope for my 340 wby.I don't want to spend a great deal of money(under $400. Checked out a few
(redfield ILL 3-10x50,Pentax 4-16x50and NRA 3-10x50 by brunton.
Am I heading in the wrong direction leaning toward the Redfield since they are no longer? Will any of these hold up to the recoil?
Thanks

Thanks I saw the $200 price on the leftover redfield and always liked them.I will likely get a bushnell 4200 4-16x50. I might get one of the redfields also. It may be outdated but who knows, for $200 what the heck.

The recent redfields are NOT the scope they were 20 years ago.

If  you are looking for a bargain scope Tasco 3-9 is probably just as good may be better. Check Samplelist for baragains.

I have the same 4200 scope you are looking to purchase on a Browning Stainless Stalker in 300 Rem Ultramag and it has held up perfectly. Should work the same on a 340 Wby...

The Pentax is not a bad scope at all, but the Bushnell is better.  I too, have one in that configuration and love it.  What .340Wby. rifle are you putting this scope on?

I think you are going in the wrong direction.  I have a Weatherby Accumark in .340 with a Leupold VariX III 3.5-10x on it and have been extremely happy with the setup.  You paid the money for a Weatherby, why go cheap on a scope?

It is going on a MKV Deluxe. I swapped the wood stock out for synthetic after a hot load gave me a hair line Fracture from the lug to the tang. Which is why I was so concerned about recoil. I am planning a Barren lands Caribou hunt in Northern Quebec for next fall. So I need something with some good long range optics and low power too for shorter range elk. All you guys have great suggestions as far as I can tell. Exept for the 3-9 tasco, very funny. Thanks guys I love this site.

Great rifle, spend the extra dollars on a better scope.
