lookin for scope suggestions for my 300wsm... the gun will prolly be mostly used for whitetail in Ny.. but i have several trips out west planned for elk and whitetail as well... undecided on what power to go with.. 3.5-10x or 4.5-14x  .. will either be a Leupold VX3 or Zeiss Conquest

Given those two choices I would pick Zeiss in the 4.5-14.
I have been trying to put a 5-20 Trijicon Accupoint  or a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x on my 300 WSM.  I like the cartridge real well for reloading.  I have a viper PST due here tomorrow and will compare it to the last Trijicon Accupoint  5-20 I bought that my son has needless to say I really like Trijicon products they have the best illumination system using tritium plus fiber optic.
I also really like this one.

Stock # - TR222G

I have used 3-9 scopes almost exclusively in Id, MT and WY and never felt underpowered at any reasonable range.
In my experience the 3-9 Conquest with its 4" eye relief would be a great choice, as I think you can be over XXed in the timber sometimes with the 4.5+. The plex reticle stays nice and black and visible in low light.
There can be times when the low end of the power range is as important as the high end.

These two may be even more versatile.

i was worried about bein over Xed as well with 4.5 at the low end in thick timber... the Burris looks nice and the power is perfect but i have no experience with the Burris line up

Go with one of your first two choices.
