I have an older Mark V in 270 Weatherby Magnum that I would like to upgrade the scope on. It currently has a Leupold Rifleman that I happened to have on hand when the previous scope died (erector springs, labeled Weatherby Premeir). I am absolutely not satisfied having a Rifleman on this gun.

Any ideas on something more high end, that is durable to take the recoil, and extemely bright in low light, and simple with very accurate adjustments?

I do not think I need a ton of magnification, I think maxing out around 9-12x would be fine. I do not have to have parralax adjustment, but if the scope does have parralax adjustment it needs to be side focus and not AO. Also the side focus needs to be easily adjusted with just a thumb and forefinger while holding the rifle in a shooting position (even standing).

I have a Kahles Helia CL 3-10 X50 that was sitting on top of my 270 WSM (took it off to send rifle back to mfg). Something as good as that (or really close to it) is what I think I want to put on this Weatherby.

Thanks,

I will take a look at them. I don't know anything about them.

I took it off my Savage 270 WSM when I sent my Savage back for inspection/repair. I did not feel comfortable shipping my scope back with the rifle. The Kahles is a dream, and if they had another one on the sample list I would grab it. I thought about the KX they have. I wonder how it compares to the CL?

I'd look at the Nikon Monarch 3x12x42, 2.5x10x42, Leupold VX-3 3.5x10x40, Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40, 3.5x10x44, Bushnell 4200 2.5x10x40.  IMHO these would be very good choices for the rifle in question.

Vx-3? I have been eying that one for a while now. I have a Conquest 3-9x40 on a 300 WSM. The Conquest is really good, but not nearly as good at least in resolution and brightness to my eyes as my Kahles.

How does the VX-3 compare to the VX-7 and to the Kahles CL and the Conquest in optical quality? I am pretty sure it is a dependable scope.

Also I forgot to mention, the Mark V is a Deluxe model, and is in really good shape, almost like new, though my Dad has put quite a few rounds through it (maybe 1000 or so, just guessing). I want a scope that is not only top quality, but looks really good on top of this fine looking rifle.
