Been out if the loop for a bit....looking for info on latest and greatest, or tried and true.

Just ordered a winchester 70 featherweight in 257. Usage will be hunting with max expected range to be 350 or so. Looking for illuminated German number 4 reticle, could live without illuminated but set on the reticle. Thinking a typical 3-9, 2-10 something like that. Maybe even a fixed 4 if that got me better optical quality. Budget 600 or less...ideas?   Thanks

If I got fixed was thinking the IOR 4x. Probably should have bought an extra Minox za5 when they were clearances last year or whenever. I'll take a look at the Meopta no experience with them.

A number of 3-9 Zeiss Conquest on the samplelist. Looks like factory refurbished at good prices...

If you're contemplating a fixed power, Meopta's Meopro 6X is available with #4. I have that scope, and it's VERY nice!

For variable scopes, it's hard to beat the aforementioned Meopro 3-9X and Conquest 3-9X.

My .257 is about 15 years old and it's wearing an old 3-9 X 40 Nikon Monarch..It works just fine.

Now ive done it....ive been contemplating this, debated before hand, but think im going to have to get the 257 weatherby as well, just for comparison sake.....Im already committing a minor crime by purchasing the maple limited edition winchester with plans to ....use it....

why not really go over the edge and get 2

Hey JLud, the "Bob" is a sweetheart...good luck with it. Mine (Cooper 56 Custom Classic) wears a Leupy VX3 2.5-8 x 36.

I have a 5-15x42 V Zeiss on my .257 Roberts but only because it is also my Coyote rifle with 85 grain BT bullets.  Normally for deer, I would put a 2-10x40 scope on a .257 Roberts.

Still deciding yet, seems like meopta has a good following and might give a try, or might just pick up the IOR fixed 4. Steel tube should be fine on a light kicker, maybe grab something a little nicer if I get the 257 wby. Thanks for all the info. Oh, and glad the cooper shoots well. Only have one of those and it's a 280 AI but nice rifle.

The IOR 4x32 is a great scope. I had one on a Cooper M22 in .257 Roberts for years. Got rid of the gun, kept the scope. It will go on the Cooper M54 Jackson Excalibur .257 Roberts I just ordered. The IOR 4x32 will handle anything the .257 is appropriate for. Clarity is amazing. No light weight...Love the scope.
