There was a question posted here a couple days ago.  A guy wanted to know if more expensive lines of Leupolds were built tougher than the less expensive lines.  What about other manufacturers?
Is a Monarch built more sturdily than a Buckmaster than a Prostaff?
Is a 4200 stouter than a 3200 than a Legend?
People seem to agree that cheap scopes don't hold up.  Where's the cut-off?

As far as the 4200's are concerned they are "recoil tested to the equivalent of 10,000 of 375 H&H magnum" whatever the heck that means, the 3200's are tested at only 1000 rds 375 H&H magnum and I have no idea what the Legend scopes are tested for/at. I do know that the main tube on the 4200 is made from titanium alloy and is a true 1 piece tube design and the 3200 is an aluminum alloy tube with the turret assembly glued onto the main tube. I don't know anything about the Nikon series, but I know several people who use them and are quite happy with them.

I think Leupold uses an outside group of angry Mexicans to test their scopes. Each scope is attached to the front bumper of a Chevy low rider and bounced the equivalent of seven passes down Hollywood Boulevard. That's an industry secret by the way.

That's gonna be hard to pin down as it depends on where the manu. applied the build cost.

I'm glad I sparked some conversation.  Clarity is nice, but I can tell if a deer is a 'shooter' by looking thru a Tasco.  I want a scope that won't fail due to recoil, or owner abuse...If you hunt in rough country you know stuff happens.
So who's the best---within reason??
p.s. I define reason as $750 and under....

I think that Leupold has a well earned reputation for durability and they would also meet your reasonable requirement.
