I have a project underway that I would like some opinions on. I have a FN Mauser in 30-06 that I am changing over to 22-250, new Shilen barrel. This rifle will not be used in the rain, fog, etc. Will not be carried long distances. It will be used only on the range and an occasional pdog hunt. I cannot justify in my mind spending more than about $200 or so on a new scope. It originally had a Weaver K2.5 on it as it was built in about 1967. The new optics are fantastic. I am thinking of the Simmons Aetec 3.8-12x44, or the Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 or something in this range. Opinions please.

Both of those are very good scopes for the money. The Aetec has a long eye relief and is a little brighter. The Elite has a little more magnification that would come in handy on the p-dogs and will mount down lower. Another good choice that is kinda in the middle of these two power wise and objective wise is the Weaver V-16 4-46x42. Its a little more money at $289.95 but worth mentioning because of its broad 4x power range, excellent optics and low profile finger adjustable target knobs. If you gotta stay under $200. I think the Bushnell is the way to go based on it being easier to mount on that Mauser and the higher power range.
