I'm a scope newbie here - this will be my first new scope purchase. Been shooting iron sights for years though.
I have an AR-15 chambered in 5.56mm, and am looking to shoot in the 50-300 yard range. Thinking of a 1-5 power, illuminated. Definitely want it to be as light as possible. I'd like to keep it at around $650 maximum. Kinda got it down to either the Leupold 113769 VX-R Patrol FireDot or the Weaver Tactical 1-5 x 24mm Illuminated. Any suggestions on which is better for my needs? Did I miss a good option? Thanks guys.

The VX-Rs are fine scopes. I have the 3-9x and like it a lot

Have a look at the SWFA classic line 1-4x24 SS I run one on my AR and have rung our steel gongs out to 500 yards with it.

Here's a couple of options that are in your price range.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Thanks. What's everyone using for a mount? Hoping for something light and sturdy, with thumbscrews or a lever to remove.

American Defense, or Bobro are your best bets for QD mounts at a reasonable price.

The Bobro mounts look exactly like what I'm looking for. How would I go about determining which Bobro mount would fit?

Get the slightly forward one. That way you can fit a backup iron sight easier. First pic is slighty forward. Second is extended
