Hi,
I am looking for some advise on choosing a scope. I am looking for a scope to put on a Windham  Weaponry Ar-15 .556.

Most of my shooting will be done on range 2-300 yards.  Where i live now doesn't go over 300 yards. I will use it on occasionally for small game hunting. I found this great website first by reading a review by Koskin. From my understanding, since i will be changing distance and doing some hunting at unknown distances i probably want something with AO (correct me if i'm wrong).

I am looking to spend up to $350 a little more if worth it but absolutely not above $400, I think i want/need AO. My eyes aren't great so something with max magnification 10 or over would suite me best. I also read that I should look for something with a FFP so that the cross hairs don't take up my entire field of view when zoomed in. Decent customer service also a plus. I'm having trouble finding scopes within my price range with both features without going with a unreputable brand. Am i trying to pack too many features into a cheap scope?

I am currently looking at the Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40mm AO with Dead-Hold BDC
This runs around 299.00

I just saw a Sightron 4.5-14x42 Big Sky on sale linked on this site for on sale + rebate makes it less than the Vortex. I haven't heard much about Sightron other than a few people who liked them.

I also read good review about Weavers tactical Grand Slam, but this doesn't have AO..

How would these two scopes stack up? Is there anything better for the money i am looking to spend?

Under 10X AO is not really needed with the exception of rimfires. Then you may be taking shots under 10 yards. The Vortex will be a good choice because of the lifetime warranty. With the Vortex the warranty will likely never be used. The BCD they use is fits the .223 with 55 gr. pretty close out to 400 yards. I could confuse the issue with a hundred other scopes but I like your choice. Just to make it interesting look at the Sightron SII 3-9 with the holdover reticle after rebate it is only $225. It will have a little better image and it is a great buy right now.

La Rue makes a very nice ringmount but its expensive. Bobro also makes on but I dont see it listed at the moment - odd it is usually shown on the SWFA site.
