So I noticed while at the range yesterday that my 3-9X50 scope is all dialed in and shoots very accurate at a distance of about 50 yards (on a Remington 597 .22 LR). Backing out to 100 yards, it is also pretty accurate (was able to keep all hits on target in a fairly small grouping). However, backing out to 200 yards, I noticed it was hard to get the rounds on target (I would only manage to get about 4 rounds on target out of the 25 rounds I would shoot).

This is my lack of knowledge on scope adjustments so bear with me and please help me out. What do I need to be doing to make these adjustments for distances? The scope was zero'd in for 100 yards. The most furthest away piece of the scope from the eye sight has an adjustment in yards from 10 yards to various increments to 150 yards, and then to infinity. For the 200 yard shot I had it on infinity, but still found myself aming higher by a few mil dots in order to get the rounds on target.

Will I need to zero out the scope again every time I shoot at 200+ yards? Or is there something I am doing wrong and the scope once zero'd at 100 yards should be setup to shoot all distances accuratly?

What you are adjusting is for parallax which is an optical problem.  It has nothing to do with shooting different distances.

You need to hold over with your scope or actually move the elevation knob to change your point of impact

I am really a newb here. So the elevation knob a.k.a. the knob on the top of the scope would need to be adjusted for changing distances.

By how much do I change the knob? The manual says each click = 1/4 inch increments at 100 yards. Shootin at a distance of 200 yards if I keep the crosshairs on the bullseye the round falls short a good 3 feet.

Those adjustments are for paralax and not for elavation.
You need to raise the elevation of your scope using the proper dial(the one on top) in order to raise the bullets impact or poa. Mil dot spacing is about 3.6 inches at 100 yards, so if you raised 2 dots that would be roughly 7.2 inches, on a 1/4 inch scope that would be about 30clicks up.
Maybe someone can explain it better than I did.

Froggy, that seems pretty straight forward. I'll give it a shot next time I am out at the range.
