I hope I didn't waste anyone's time, as usual I stretched my budget to the Sightron SII 4-16AO with target turrets. I should have explained that at my local dealer I bought a rifle at cost with the purchase of a scope. Since I didn't pick out a scope I paid asking price for the rifle, with the condition I would get the $100 back towards a scope purchase. So... I can get the SII for $265 instead of the $365.

Anyways, while looking at my 10/22 target I noticed that the barrel is not floated. Is floating something that will help this particular model. I can't help but notice the custom stocks all stop touching anything at about the reciever. I worry about it more when I get the SII bought and take some time at the range.

Here's the stock 10/22 Target in brown laminate. I bought the Sightron SII 4-16x42 with target turrets last week and shot it last Sunday. I bought Winchest T-22, Winchester Super-X High Velocity, CCI Stinger High Velocity, and Remington Eley LTD Club Xtra all 40 grains to try. These are off of a bench at 25yds.

The shot string in the middle, starting at the bottom and working to the bull are the sighting in shots. There is a group about 3" low from the bull that was put there intentionally with the CCI.
The groups are all 5 shot. Starting in lower right and moving counter clockwise: Eley, Eley, T-22, Super-X, Super-X,T-22, CCI, and CCI (the group circled below the bull.)

My best group is on the green dot to the right of the bull using the Remington Eley ammo. That particular group measures about .225.

Would any other mods help these groups or should I leave well enough alone. I've never spent anytime with a match grade .22 and don't know what is good or not. I can't wait to see what happens at 50 or even 100 yds, perhaps that will tell me more. Any other good ammo to try, I still want to try some Wolf match grade out of it.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm really happy with the Sightron as well.

That looks like some fine shooting as, was that at 50yds? Big Grin

I don't recall if you'd done any trigger work but barrel and trigger are usually the key. After that you get into the esoteric stuff like bedding but it looks pretty darn accurate to me.

I should have noted that the groups were shot off a bench at 25yds. The rifle has the stock Ruger 10/22 target trigger in it, which is considerably better than my son's 10/22 delux with the standard trigger.  So far it is bone stock. The only thing I've thought about doing is floating the barrel, right now the barrel and stock are tight, no gap at all, all the way from the reciever to the end of the stock.

Volquartsen makes a nice trigger kit for the 10/22. I would look at that.

Also I believe one of the members here SVT did a test on 22LR ammo that is somewhere here. Not sure where though. You could PM him for it. And I am not sure I would be using CCI Stinger High Velocity ammo in a 10/22. I know on my Volquartsen they specifically say not to use it.

Don't worry about free floating the barrel on a 10/22 it's usually unnecessary and often counter productive. With a 22 you don't get the heat buildup and touching/not-touching heat differentials that cause stock swelling and accuracy issues with centerfires. And if you free float you'll have to support the weight of that heavy barrel with an adjustable v-block or bed an inch of the barrel to prevent barrel droop.

There are a few ways to go with the trigger depending on budget and personal taste. You can improve the pull weight by just dropping in a Volquartsen hammer kit (~$30-40). Or you can get a a nice crisp ~2-1/2 trigger job from Clark Custom or Brimstone Gunsmithing ($75-85) that includes both improved parts and some fine tuning. Or you can replace the whole trigger assembly with a  ~2-1/2lb pull aluminum assembly from Volgartsen ($220). Or you can go whole hog for the Ferrari of triggers which is a Kidd two-stage. The Kidd is fully adjustable from 3oz+3oz to 1.25lb+1.25lb and is freaking amazing ($290 + $20 for the mag release). I've have done the hammer upgrade and I've had Clark do a trigger job and the Clark job was better. I haven't had Brimstone do a 10/22 for me but he did a beautiful job on one of my Mini-14s. I also own a Volquartsen assembly and it seems a tad better than the Clark trigger job but only a tad. But none of those are close to the perfection of a two-stage Kidd.

Other nice upgrades include an extended mag release. For the factory trigger assembly I like the Tactical Solutions lever style ($31) that conforms to the factory trigger guard and for the Kidd the matching Kidd lever is the way to go - both do the same thing, but I haven't seen one for the Volquartsen. What they do is allow you to drop the mag without moving your trigger hand by just extending your "expressive" finger. Another great upgrade is to replace the extractor with a Volquartsen (~$10) but it can wait if yours is working. You can also get the bolt reworked or replace it but a blueprinted bolt will only buy you a teeny-tiny increase in accuracy, however they can be pretty.

You can see the Kidd trigger assembly and mag release on one of mine.

Work in progress, soon to be a 1:8 barrel black vs SS, probably sticking it our with a fajen legacy if I can find one.  Scope is looking like SS 5-20.  20moa base since they have 30plus mils...

back to OP what are you going with?

The sightron should work 80moa SII the lenses and the exact tract has been improved.

I have a Minox 4-20x50 on one of my ar15 [.22lr]builds & it works rather well.I also use a SS10x[original]on my Savage MKll that also works well, but the glass on the minox is much nicer but at twice the price!

I also prefer the parrallex adjustment on the Minox which gets me down to 12 yds.
