I recently purchased a group of scopes from Germany. Among the was a 6x42 S&B 26mm that I planned to use on a Swede sniper clone.

Once all was done and the scope installed I put it on paper and found that the directions on both windage and elevation are the opposite stated. Up is down, left is right. Scope work fine, tracks beautifully etc. Owning a number of more modern S&Bs I have never found this before.

Has anyone ?  Photos below. Thanks.

Interesting. Maybe it was for a specific contract...spec'd by someone who had his directions backwards?

The scope does not adjust for the strike of the round but rather the change in reticle position. Up moves the reticle up, moving the strike of the round down. Left moves the reticle left, causing the impact to move right.

Frame if reference is everything.

As an aside, when I bought a new S&B Summit a few ago, the elevation / windage labels were not correct. Upon contacting S&B, they immediately sent the new, correct ones. I was a bit disappointed though... they never apologized or said they were sorry for the mistake / confusion.

An interesting conjecture but if true it is the only scope in the world I have ever encountered that applies that manner of reverse logic. Have owned/own a lot of Euros scopes that go from pre WW I to current production.

My newest S&B 4-16x50 has H & T  (Hoch & Tief) (Up & Down) on the elevation knob and
L & R (Link & Recht) (Left and Right) on the windage knob. All refer to bullet strike movement, not the relative position of the reticle. It is not a gray market scope and says "Germany" not West Germany.

I'll take a SWAG ( as these scopes were never over here before I bought them) that Hans or Greta was fixing the scope and got these knobs from God knows where . Hoch is Tief and Link is Recht.

Once the load is finalized and sighted in, it really means nothing. Just a curiosity that no one appears to have encountered.

I've seen a few that function this way. Admittedly, one was a piece of garbage Tasco; however, the other was an old German scope.  The owner told me it was designed that way, maybe his too was just a build screwup.
