the recoil should be about 15-20 ft. lbs of recoil energy, depending on what bullet you shoot. which is very tollerable. the average shooter can ussually withstand up to 20ft lbs of RE. so you should be more than fine. i shoot a 300 ultra mag, for deer, and have shot 338, and 375 ultra mags very comfortably.

Great set-up, I think you will be very pleased.  You will probably experience a little more felt recoil then you have from the gas operated M1s and M14s.  Don't worry, a .308 is not an uncomfortable round to shoot and it is extremely versatile.  Think of the .308 as something of a short .30-06 with a little bit more accuracy.  The FFII is an extremely good scope for the money.  The set-up that you have put together is as good as you can get without having to spend a whole lot more money.  You are essentially ready for anything in North America with the exception of a Brown Bear and you could harvest one of those in a pinch.

redneckbmxer24, shooting these rounds can be hazardous to your health!!!!  I don't know of anyone that would describe shooting any of these rounds an comfortable. Stay away from these rounds, we want you around for awhile!!!

I'm sure that you are looking forward to Lazzeroni's Battlestar. I saw a picture of this new barrel burner next to a 30/06 cartridge for comparison. It is still being developed, but ,  Lazzeroni states that it will launch a 180 gr. 30 cal. at approx. 4000 fps. The reloading instructions probably go something like this: Prime case, add 1lb can of Retumbo and seat bullet to correct OAL.

Sounds like the folks at Lazzeroni have stepped even farther into the world of S&M.....
I suppose their market research has discovered a nitch for a .30 cal that kicks like a .460 Wby?

I'm guessing they're going to market it to the "body modification" shops ..... tongue splitting is becoming very popular, and this "battlestar" sounds like a quick non-surgical alternative...

I'm guessing it'll come with disposable barrels as well?

redneckbmxer24,

Don't hold your breath waiting for Remington to chamber any of Lazzeroni's cartridges.

Cory,

I'll bet in a year or two PTG will be offering a reamer for the "battlestar". Perhaps your 300 ultra could use a major shot of steriods???

LOL

dont think its gonna happen huh? ohh well, im perfectly happy with my 700 lss 300 ultra mag (boomer). i think that 30-378 is jsut about the biggest waste of money there is. you dont get much more preformance than you do with the 300 utlra, but you do get to pay 3 times more for the ammo. sheeesh

Cory,

I'm guessing about the same as an oxy-acetlene torch would do ... to the "throat" and lands.

There is a big difference between a 30-378 & a 30-375 both in cost and velocity, ( and he is now wishing he'd have just gone with a Lazzeroni chambering).... but then again he isn't quite 30 yet so he still has time to wise-up.

I've made the same type of "phu-pah" myself....

But I was thinking....

a 6.5-2.25"-300 ULT might be worth looking into... it'd be just a wee bit longer than a 6.5-284 with about 10% more powder capacity and a longer neck.

It looks like the Marine Corp is seriously concidering the 6.5-284 or something very similar for its 1000 yd. match round.

Hey Chris, you never know, Lazzeroni's first rifle were built on 700 actions!!! Now his rifles are assembled using McMillan actions, McMillan stocks, Schneider barrels, Jewell triggers and Sunny Hill bottom metal. His brass comes from Mast Technologies. His bullets are plated by Barkmann. I wonder ifhis "shop" has a full set of screwdrivers!!!
