New forum member with my second thread.  The first was what to get for a scope.  Thanks for all the great advice everyone who responded!  After all the wrangling and thinking and pricing and harassing the guys at Bass Pro Shops, I ended up with a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40mm for $309.  For the extra few dollars, I got something with enough reach that I can shoot longer distances with the 7mm.  But was unable to find rings there.  Problem is that my rifle is pretty old.  Probably about 15 years old and I never mounted a scope at all.  The bases that we found all had rounded undersides, which work great on the front part, but the rear of my receiver is flat.  Anyone out there with this rifle that could tell me what to get to mount the scope?  New to scopes and it seems a daunting task when I see all the options out there.  Thanks!

Joe,

You have the bases for the newer Savage with the Accu-Trigger model.  What you have is a pre Accu-Trigger Savage.  Just go back to where you got them, get your money back.  Then buy what you need here at SWFA.

My personal preference, is the Warne maxima Weaver style bases.

For that model look for 1 piece Leupold mount with their rings. Will hold everythind nice and firm and keep it in place.
