My buddy has a Savage 110 bolt-action 30-06 and he has been wanting to purchase a new scope.

The local retailer has him lined out on a VX-R 3 to 9 x 40 which is great. He's happy. The problem is they keep telling him the proper base mounts for the rifle are on back order.

I'm wondering if someone can direct me to some alternative bases & 30mm rings that would be found on SWFA, he'd like to go hunting in November with his new scope and it's looking like either they actually are on back order or someone is dragging their feet. The prices they quoted him for the rings and base seemed a bit low which makes me thing the guy doing the quoting dropped the ball.

I believe this rifle is a long-action if that makes a difference.

The existing bases are labeled KS51 (front) KS52 (rear) not sure of the brand...I'm guessing it's some kind of weaver base. This appears to be some kind of offset where the rear base is thicker than the front. I'm not real up on this stuff but I'm wondering if that makes a difference.

Those rings to me don't look like they would work with

Correction: The existing bases are a brand called Kwik-Site (never heard of them)

Take those bases off and use the above.  They will simplify life and be much stronger.  The above talleys are  the base and the rings in one.

I run an EGW base and TPS rings on my 110. I purchased both on SWFA.

He seems to think he needs high mounts and I'm trying to talk him out of that.

Pros or Cons?

The higher the mount the worse your cheek weld will be in 99% of the times.  To get the best feel for me I want it as close to the bore of the gun as possible.

+1, as low as possible.

One nice part of a rail is that you have a little more latitude in mounting spacing on the savage, especially with shorter scopes on a Savage LA.

+2, the lower the better. I also agree with using the talley's.
Just be sure to check if you have the flat or round receiver before ordering.

Well he wanted the high mounts so that's what I ordered for him. He had his mind made up because that's what his gunsmith told him...the same guy that couldn't find what he needed. Whacko

Thanks again for everyone's help!
