I just purchased a SAKO TRG22 in 308. I'm trying to decide what optics to put on the rifle, any suggestions? I'll primarily be using the rifle for long range tactical matches. The Leupold Mark 4 8.5x25x50 with the illuminated recital looks like a good option, but what about scopes from Springfield Armory, would they be a good choice? Thanks! |

Leupold and Springfield Armory are both excellent choices. Another scope you might want to look at is the Nightforce with Illuminated reticle this is one of the best tactical scopes on the market.

If you choose a Swarovski and it is the 10X fixed >>> Definitely go with the MILDOT / Target knobs for the TRG24
The Christmass tree is calibrated to M8 AP ballistics 500>2000 yds. It is of no value for the 338 only the 50 for which it was made
I would go with the Sako QD base ( 30mm rings included) for a list price of ~ $400 If you can get it through a dealer you might be able to save a few bucks
The QD lets you take off the scope easily and changes the profile of the rifle so you may be able to fit it into a large case more easily
Yes I reload but have purchased some boxes of Black Hills for some accuracy comparisons
If you did not buy the muzzle break yet > do it . It is expensive but very effective and can be adjusted to help off set counter rotation torque and keep the muzzle on line after a shot.
the bipod is excellent but as with all the proprietary accessories big bucks. Very stable shooting position and adequately strong to deal with the recoil forces on it . It is a true QD with adequate roll left / right to deal with uneven ground.
The Swarovski 10 X Mill dot is a very adequate scope for this rifle
As for deer hunting with it>. that is your choice. With a bag or bipod rest on the ground you can reach way out on a powerline shot if you know your distances, ammo and scope adjustments

Need to jump on that Swarovski mildot that they have for sale
here. I would be all over it, but I'm extremely happy with my
Schmidt&Bender PM-1. I have shot alot of tactical rifles from
all over the world, remember Leupold was the lowest bidder with the
best quality for the M24.
