I just bought a Sako AV 375 H&H. I'm trying to find rings that will work on the Sako receiver. I hear rings described as either "new style" or "old style". How are they different and which will work best on my mid-eighties vintage AV Sako?

One style of Sako rings are one piece and have a tension screw somewhat like a weaver set up, another style of Sako, bases have a tension in the base that slides on the tapered rifle action and holds the bases by friction (these are made by burris, redfield), they then use a traditional redfield windage and post set up. The original Sako type is a better set up. A really old set of Sako will have "flats" as the two halves of the rings are drawn together, whereas the original "new" sako have a 3/4 ring like a set of Zeiss mounts and are very attractive. Also Leo has both Sako and CZ mount which are as good as the makers. Most Sako's are pre-Garcia, Garcia (the importer and have a reddish tinge to the receivers) or current which now imported by Berretta will come to be known as pre-Berretta. All will work for your gun, personally I would get a set of the old flat type Sako's in keeping with the gun and a current Burris scope which is also now Berreta, then it could be a pre-beretta, post garcia, pre burris. (I really like Seiko's so don't get me wrong, by the way Sako means sack).

Opti-Locs blow!!

I paid an un-Godly amount for a set and they were JUNK!!

Talleys worked much better, and even the Leupolds worked well.
