    Posted: October/22/2011 at 23:55

I am looking for a good balance between close range >50yds, medium range 100-200yds and general ruggedness for my converted saiga ak.  It wont be until tax time that I will make my purchase, so I have time to get ideas on my optic.  My price range will be under $200, which i feel should be enough to do the job.

Id love some ideas that would suit my rifle and be tough enough to take abuse.  Im not set on any specific power, fixed or variable, or anything else.  Im just looking for opinions from anyone who would like to give me advice.  Im just looking to get an optic that fits my rifle and range of shooting.

I know the ak isnt the most precise weapon, but a decent scope would make it way better.  I just need to improve over my open sights, and get some extra range that i lack with the irons.  Resistance to abuse is a must and quick, close target aquisition is important also.

Any help is appreciated

Why not go with a scope designed for it, like the POSP 4x24 or something along those lines?

Personally, I occasionally use a scope on my Saiga, but most of the time I have a red dot on it, which I feel is a good match to the rifle.

What mount do you use to mount the red dot on your Siaga. My AK is Romanian if that makes a difference. It has the side reciever mount but it seems like mounting a dot forward would be the ticket.

I've got an Ultimak mount on it (replaces the gas tube).

It works pretty well and the red dot sight can be mounted sufficiently low for good cheekweld.
