A co-worker is a collector of foreign surplus rifles.  He recently purchase a Rumanian version of the AK, which has a modified stock for better grip, which was used as a squad automatic weapon.  It was equipped with a 30 round mag or a drum type.   The receiver has been modified to preclude automatic fire, of course.  Available for it, is a scope, also Rumanian made.   He's telling me it's a 4X with the following numbers:

PSO-1, LPS 4X6TIP2.

I know that some of the former eastern block companies make very good scope.  Meopta  and IOR  are two examples.  This sucker can be had for $100, which does not recommend high quality.  Does anyone know anything about these scopes?  As in, how bad are they?

It depends on when it was made.  PSO is an old design, but a lot of them were manufactured to a pretty high optical standard.  If the scope is in a good condition it is likely to be better than a Weaver K4 in terms of optics.

There are far more reputable sources than Kalinka Optics (they are godaweful).  The best source of russian optics that fit various Eastern European weapons is, IMO, Tantal at
