Ruger is a solid company and the m77 is a good bolt gun, and you got a good caliber - .308 plenty for everything but the largest game.  Scope is another good one you have there... they improved the VX-III series to the VX3 but still a very nice performer.  The 2.5-8 variable is an outstanding match for a .308 hunting rig.  I would say ya have a heck of  a combo.

That's a pretty nice friend!
The Ruger is a well built rifle that had some accuracy problems years ago and some of us (speaking for myself) never gave Ruger M77's another chance although it's said by many that they've improved. The scope is a good one and should compliment the rifle well.
Congrats on your new firearm.

Just purchased a used Ruger M77 in 30-06 with a Leopold VX-III 3x10. I love the gun and it handles the hottest 30-06 very well. Enjoy.

One heck of a combo! great gun in a great calibre! and a really great scope!

Just don't expect it to shoot dimes all day. You should get groups in the region of 1 to 1.5 inches @ 100 metres benchresting it.

.308 is a great middle of the range calibre. Covers everything from Bunnies, Goats, Pigs and Deer.

And the Leupold is a really great scope too!
