Well don't know why but I brought home a new Ruger scout rifle tonight and now I need to scope it. I don't intend to do the forward mount thing but would like and would appreciate any recommendations that might be provided as to a nice match up for this particular firearm. Also would value any experience that one might share as to ownership of this rifle and maybe what you may have been getting out of it as far as performance long-range etc. etc.
Many thanks REP

Well, I do not own that particular rifle, but I have shot it.

It performed well and while I do not care for its looks too much, it was comfortable to shoot and well-balanced.

If I were to put a conventional scope on this rifle for general purpose shooting, i would be looking for something not too large.  If your interests lean toward the tactical end of things, consider Vortex PST 2.5-10x32.  It is compact scope with an FFP reticle and good turrets.

If your intention is to use it as a simple hunting rig,  just started testing the new Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x32 and I am exceptionally impressed with it so far.  It picks up where the well liked Vipre 2-7x32 was a couple of years ago and takes it up a notch.

If you want something smaller and lower powered, consider Minox ZA-5 1.2-6x24, Leupold VX-6 1-6x24, SWFA SS 1-6x24 and perhaps a few others.

I can go on, but some idea of your price range would be good.

I put one of those scout together a few years ago for my grand-son.His first time out he got a 275 lb.boar,he was 12 at that time.I had the barrel ported & added a XS full length rail + a Minox ZA5 2-10x50 scope. He still loves & uses the rifle!
