No, I didn't see that, but to me it would be more interesting seeing a more traditional caliber say 45-70 on bison, the way they did it In The Day.

Give me the 378 Wby. magnum any day.  Sorry for the bias.  For my money, the 338-378 or 340 Wby. magnums could have done the job just as well.  Nothing like a flat shooting, hard hitting cartridge.  That is, if you can handle the recoil.

.................Yeah! And if the 375 RUM or the 378 Wby. Mag. were available in a 20" barreled more compact rifle, I would have one of those instead!!...Other than aiming a little higher to compete with the flatter shooting .378 Wby. or 375 RUM, the Ruger cartridge will still hold its own and have enough down range energy to kill a buffalo given the same range. Dead is dead! And, no doubt the 338 or 340 Wbys. could have done the same job on those bison as seen on the TV show last night!.......... But then again, when it comes to Africa, the 338 calibers have their game restrictions,,,,,,,,don`t they! With a MV of over 3000 fps. with a 225 gr. bullet and from a 20" barrel, the .375 Ruger is certainly no short range slouch!..............Even Mr. Craig Boddington commented, that while the 375 RUM and the 378 WBY. are at the top of the 375 caliber food chain, their speed along with their harsh recoil in any realistic hunting situation, is not needed!..........No apologies needed for your bias!! We all have them!!Wink

Also too, comparing the 375 Ruger to the 378 Wby. is similiar to comparing the 300 Win. to the 300 RUM! Is it worth it??...............In nosing around & comparing, the price of a DGR in the 378 WBY. is what? About 3K + the scope? Hmmm!..............Loaded down or well below max., the 378 Wby. would still require approx. 20 grains or more powder PER ROUND to accomplish the same velocities of the 375 Ruger! Maximum velocities for the .378 Wby. to achieve approx. 300 fps. over the .375 Ruger`s max. would take 30 grains or more powder PER round? Hmmmm!...............The rifle weight difference with scope between a DGR in a 378 vs. the 375 Ruger in the Alaskan or the Howa M1500 would be 1 1/2 lbs. Maybe two? Hmmmm!...................Oh! And lets not forget that recoil. I haven`t done the math, but I`ll guess that using max. loads for both rounds, even though the 375 Ruger rifle is lighter, the 378 Wby. will generate another 30 to 40% more recoil over the 375 Ruger! Hmmmm!.................Shooting distances on guided hunts for caped buffalo in Africa are what? 125 yards or less? Distances for guided bison hunts in the states are on average what; less than 200 yards? Big bears less than 200 yards?....................When looking at just the ballistics, it is certainly easy to quickly justify the .378 Wby. and take that choice anytime! However! When one looks at the BIG picture and realistically takes everything into account?................. I will go with the .375 Ruger,,,,anytime!!
