My brother got a Ruger 77 in 204 Ruger. Its the cheaper model can't remember which.

It shoots quite well but the trigger is absolutely horrendous. My brother swears there is no way to adjust the trigger. If this is true is there a reasonably priced replacement for it?
I have never delt with Ruger rifles before but I always thought they were good rifles so this was quite a shock.

Timney makes a nice trigger for the Ruger 77, they run about a $100.00 and can be installed by anyone with a little patience and know how.  I installed one on a Ruger 77 in 25-06 some years ago, it wasn't bad to install and sure did help.

+1

Although, the one I put in my M77 .223 didn't cost me but around $80.  It was very easy to install.  Made all the difference in the world.  You might get by with a trigger job from a smith, but it would probably cost about the same.  I'd get the Timney.

Thanks for the replies. I'll tell him about the Timney trigger. He's out of work right now but maybe lb can help him out.
The rifle shoots quite well for a sporter weight barrel out of the box as it is, holding 3 shoots within 1.5-2 in. at 200 yds. in spite of the horrible trigger.

+1 for the Timney!

I recently got a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .308 and the new and improved trigger for the Hawkeye (the LC6) is absolutely useless for range work in my opinion...O.K. for hunting and thats it...any trigger where you have to squeeze the pistol grip on the stock when pulling the trigger is way too heavy IMHO.

Currently got a Timney on (back) order...has to come from the U.S. (I live in Australia)...obviously a big demand for them over here!!!
