My next project. Its been sitting in a box for awhile. Got these as is. They are dated 1940. Problems: 1. Prisms need to be cemented. 2. The right hand objective mounting ring is split 3. Missing screw from right hand prism retaining spring 4. Entire prism mounting and alignment parts missing from right hand turret. I have not taken the oculars apart yet, so those need to be checked for issues. Edited by DPI - March/01/2020 at 09:06 |

Hi DPI,
The Ross No. 5 is why the Hughes Mk 2 and Mk3 collimators had to be lengthened. Do you have one? If not, what will you use to collimate the instrument?

Hi all. well this may not be 'doable' due to the missing parts in the turret. Unlikely to find replacements. Which would knock it on the head. I have the mark 4 collimator, which was fitted for the 7x50s. the only problem is I don't have the mounting brackets that hold the binoculars on the centre plate. There were three different ones of them. It has been in my mind to make new ones, but I have not had a chance to work on that yet. The point you raise is most likely the reason they are like this in the first place, that or they were 'cannonballed' These are from my 'Box-'O'-Binos'. Slowly working through them to see what is recoverable and as a learning exercise. |
